MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a grant to cover the replacement of a middle school in Covington, Tennessee, destroyed by a tornado.

Crestview Middle School and the elementary school next door were destroyed by a tornado during storms that hit West Tennessee over March 31 and April 1, 2023.

FEMA awarded a Public Assistance Grant of $17,338,355 to the Tipton County School Board of Education to cover the cost of replacing the school. Last Week, FEMA also awarded the district $6,541,373 to cover the cost of temporary schools for Crestview Elementary and Middle, and another $1,336,969 for safe rooms at the temporary structures.
