Chatham has two years remaining in his four-year term.

According to a post on social media, Chatham said he and his wife decided to move their sons to a local Christian school.

“Parents move their kids to different schools all the time, but it’s a thornier issue when dad is a school board member for the district his kids are leaving,” said the post. “After being brutally honest with myself, I don’t think I can give this role the full focus and passion it deserves while investing in my boys’ new school the way I want as their dad,”

Chatham went on to say that the decision was not a slight on the district itself.

“My main concern is that this move will be perceived as a vote of no confidence in the district,” he said. “Hear me say that’s not the case. GMSD is full of wonderful schools staffed by incredible teachers, principals and administrators.”

According to the GMSD policies, the Germantown Board of Mayor and Alderman will appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the next regular election.
