MEMPHIS, Tenn — LeMoyne-Owen College has been named a 2024 Fulbright Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Institutional Leader by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).

The Fullbright HBCU Institutional Leader’s Initiative was formed in 2019 to recognize HBCUs for their engagement with the Fullbright program, which offers students in the United States the opportunity to foster stronger bonds and connections with people in other countries.

"We are incredibly proud of this recognition," said Dr. Christopher B. Davis, President of LeMoyne-Owen College. "Being named a Fulbright HBCU Institutional Leader affirms our dedication to providing our students with opportunities beyond the classroom and into the global community … This further strengthens our position as a leader in higher education, particularly among HBCUs."

LeMoyne-Owen College has hosted multiple Fulbright scholars; the institution remains committed to increasing the number of students and faculty engaging in international educational exchanges, according to officials.

Along with LeMoyne-Owen College, the ECA selected Tennessee State University as another one of the 19 HBCUs selected for this year’s commemoration.
