MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Executive Manager for Memphis-Shelby County Schools superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins has resigned, just one week after Feagins’ Special Assistant announced her resignation.

In a post on Facebook, Julian Cross, who was announced to the position as head of the MSCS superintendent's office in May 2024, said he is leaving to become a Communications Manager with the Greater Memphis Chamber.

"This next step is so much more than a new role—it’s an opportunity to continue serving our incredible city in new ways," he said. "I am profoundly thankful to Superintendent Dr. Marie N. Feagins for recognizing my God-gift and talents in administration. She gave me encouragement, mentorship, and unwavering support, helping me grow into a leader who is ready for this next chapter. I honor and appreciate you!"

Cross originally began at MSCS in January 2023 as a Communications Specialist. He began working in the superintendent’s office in early May before becoming the Executive Manager.

"From the moment I met Julian when I was a candidate for the Superintendency, I knew I had discovered a hidden jewel," said Dr. Feagins in a social media post. "Affectionately known as 'Jules,' Julian stood out in the MSCS communications department, and I knew his talents were destined for more. I invited him to join my team, and together, we’ve worked to cultivate his leadership skills, passion, and dedication."

A Central High grad, Cross is also a musician and recording office, and MSCS said he wrote the district’s first anthem “See the Future.” He has a masters’ degree from Louisiana State University-Shreveport and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis.

With deep gratitude, I’m excited to share that I’ll be joining the Greater Memphis Chamber as Communications Manager....

Just one week before Cross' announcement, Camalyn Turner announced her resignation as special assistant to Dr. Feagins.

Turner started in the role in June, which was supposed to serve as a liaison between the superintendent’s office and district departments. Her email said her resignation was effective Oct. 22.

Turner had previously served as special assistant to the superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools and later as executive director of school support.
