Shelby County Commissioner criticizes MSCS' superintendent selection process, says solution has been available 'all along' in Toni Williams

Shelby County Commissioner Henri E. Brooks held a press conference Friday morning to discuss MSCS' superintendent search.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Commissioner Henri E. Brooks criticized Memphis-Shelby County Schools' superintendent selection process in a statement provided before her presser Friday morning, saying they already have the solution in interim-Superintendent Toni Williams.

Brooks said the MSCS' selection process has failed the community and stability is needed, adding that the solution has been readily available all along.

"While candidates from far and wide are being considered, Superintendent Williams has consistently demonstrated her ability to anticipate changes, leverage emerging opportunities, and propel MSCS toward long-term success," Brooks said in the statement.

Brooks also said MSCS' current candidates each bring a concern with them that may create problems in the system.

MSCS is set to discuss and appoint its new superintendent Friday, Feb. 9, after more than a year-long search, following the resignation of the previous superintendent back in August 2022. Three finalists for the position were decided this past December
