Students fall ill after eating gummies possibly laced with THC, says Memphis Police

MPD said a Memphis-Shelby County Schools officer contacted them Tuesday after several students got sick at Invictus Academy at Airways on Ketchum Rd.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said several students fell ill Tuesday after eating gummies possibly laced with THC.

MPD said a Memphis-Shelby County Schools officer contacted them Feb. 27, 2024, after several students got sick at Invictus Academy at Airways (formerly Northwest Prep Academy) on Ketchum Rd. The officer told investigators the student had eaten candy gummies which they said may have been laced with THC.

MPD said some of the students knew the gummies were laced, according to the officer, and some did not know. The officer told MPD some of the students bought the gummies, and some were given them.

Investigators said four children were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition.

They said the school officers were not able to find any more gummies or paraphernalia. The Department of Children's Services was contacted about the incident.
