MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The University of Memphis announced plans Thursday to build new student housing on campus for fall 2026.
The U of M said the 540-bed apartment-style student housing development will be part of the Park Avenue campus, which will also be home to the future Tiger Park. Tiger Park is set to include academic and athletic facilities. They said the new housing will allow student athletes to live where they train.
"This first-class facility will help tremendously in recruiting for our athletic programs and assist in building a sense of community across our University with student-athletes living alongside others in our student population,” said University of Memphis President Bill Hardgrave in a news release.
The U of M said it’s not just for the athletes. Other students will also be able to live in the development, which will feature four-bedroom, two-bedroom, and studio units with study and social spaces and dining options. They said there will be a secure gated area with nearly 300 parking spaces.
The school said the housing will help to decrease the waitlist of students needing housing, which they said was more than 400 students this summer.
University leaders said the school is partnering with The Annex Group for the new housing project.
