Here's how you can get a free smoke alarm from the Red Cross after their 'Sound the Alarm' event in Memphis

The event at Memphis' St. Theresa of the Little Flower church aimed to raise awareness for the need of smoke alarms.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The American Red Cross Mid-South held an event at Memphis' St. Theresa Catholic Church Saturday aimed at helping people prepare their homes for fire risks, and they installed 180 smoke alarms for free around the Hyde Park neighborhood.

The "Sound the Alarm" event with the Memphis Fire Department saw volunteer teams visit homes around Memphis' Hyde Park neighborhood, installing smoke alarms free of charge, while volunteers at St. Theresa Church shared information on fire safety and fire prevention.

“Sound the Alarm is a rewarding way to give back and directly help local families,” said Sarah Breazeale, Executive Director of the Mid-South Chapter of the American Red Cross. “It’s a day of coming together to support one another, especially those most vulnerable to home fires. A working smoking alarm can be the difference between survival and tragedy — and as a community, we can help our neighbors stay safe by ensuring they have these lifesaving devices.”

The Red Cross said while this event directly served the Hyde Park Community, they install free smoke alarms throughout homes in the Mid-South.

If you are in need of a smoke alarm, request a smoke alarm online at www.soundthealarm.org/tennessee or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
