MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy is encouraging Mississippi mayors to take the vaccine when available, and to encourage others to do the same.

In his statement, Espy said it's time to inspire hope by echoing what top science and medical advisers are saying and "take the shot."

I am strongly encouraging all municipal mayors to take the coronavirus vaccination when it becomes available in Mississippi and offer support for constituency to do the same. Mississippi State Health Director Dr. Thomas Dobbs tweeted Monday that Mississippi should have around 25,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine by next week.
