MEMPHIS, Tenn — On Oct. 17, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Regional One Health hosted a "Lunch and Learn" event, educating employees age 40 and up on the disease.
During the event, employees learned about managing the risk factors of breast cancer and monthly self-exams. The "Lunch and Learn" event also featured a photo booth so employees could celebrate taking charge of their lives.
The health system emphasized the value of its employees and the importance of being breast health aware.
Regional One Health said it is offering several breast cancer awareness events this month for its employees and residents living in and around the Memphis community.
Alyana Cox of Regional One said these events are meant to remind women around or above the age of 40 about the importance of annual screenings.
"A mammogram is really and truly the best tool that we have at detecting and preventing breast cancer," she said.
Their next event will be on Oct. 18. The Regional One Health East Campus is hosting Mammograms and Muffins in the Imaging Center, where patients who receive a screening mammogram will get a free muffin. This event will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
