MARIANNA, Ark. — A man and woman are dead after a plane crashed Sunday night in Lee County, according to Arkansas State Police (ASP).
The Lee County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible plane crash around 9 p.m. May 12, 2024. Later around 9:30 p.m., first responders found a single-engine plane that had crashed 12 miles southeast of the city limits of Marianna, locating two people — a 72-year-old and 73-year-old — dead inside.
According to ASP, witnesses had said a privately-owned plane was traveling from Florida to the Batesville airport, and around 8 p.m., family members of the victims contacted the West Helena Police Department for help after not hearing from the man and woman.
The investigation was handed over to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
