31 People Arrested For Drag Racing Cars, Motorcycles, 4-Wheelers

Memphis police have arrested 31 people for drag racing and other charges on Saturday.

Memphis police have arrested 31 people for drag racing and other charges on Saturday.

Police made the scene in the 3600 block of Paul Lowery at 4:45 p.m., where they received complaints of drag racing car, motorcycles and 4-wheelers on the street.

An officer sat in an unmarked car in the Electrolux parking lot and saw a large group of vehicles pull up and stop on the side of the roadway across from Electrolux.

Police said that several of the vehicles were pick-up trucks that had trailers containing racing type motorcycles and off road 4-wheelers. Authorities also said several high performance street racing vehicles were also involved.

An orange cone was placed in the middle of the street to mark a quarter of a mile from the starting line and

numerous vehicles and pedestrians were in the street blocking the roadway watching the races, according to MPD.

Other officers responded to the scene when several motorcycles began racing at a high rate of speed. Officers pulled up and blocked the roadway to prevent the involved parties from fleeing.

A total of 31 people were arrested for Drag Racing and other misdemeanor traffic offenses. Numerous cars, trucks, trailers and motorcycles were towed to the city lot, officers said.

Police found $12,700 in one of the vehicles that was towed. Officers also recovered a stolen motorcycle that was in the back of a trailer.

One man was arrested for marijuana possession.
