On August 4, 2024, just before 1:30 a.m., the Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to a shooting with injuries at 5560 Shelby Oaks Dr. According to MPD, officers arrived on the scene and found several people in the parking lot yelling that a woman was shot in the bathroom.

Police located the victim in the woman's bathroom with a gunshot wound. While officers helped her, they learned her daughter had also been grazed by a bullet.

The Memphis Fire Department made the scene and took both victims to Regional One in non-critical condition. They have since been released.

Officers said two others were also shot - a man who walked up to police at the scene and let them know he had been injured, and a fourth person who was found by the on-duty Security officer and was taken inside Focuz Lounge for medical attention. Both were taken to area hospitals in non-critical condition and have been released.

MPD investigators said three men had followed an unidentified victim out of the club when at least two of the people in the group began shooting and struck four customers of Focuz Lounge. They said the suspects took off in a white Dodge Charger with damage to the rear bumper. Police said a fourth person with the suspects may have knowledge of the shooting.

Officers found five cars that were damaged during the shooting and several shell casings, from different caliber weapons, in the rear parking lot. They also located several bullet holes inside the business near the northwest side of the building.

Video of the shooting

MPD said Focuz Lounge owners showed police video footage of the shooting, which has not been released.

Police said it showed a man in a black and white True Religion shirt, black shorts, and black and white Jordan sneakers, accompanied by a woman wearing a white halter top, running from the front of the club. Another man was seen wearing a black shirt and dark colored jeans, walking in the same direction as the unknown victims. Investigators said video showed him pulling out a handgun and shooting at them.

Police said one of the victims retrieved a firearm from the from seat of a Gray Kia Optima and started returning shots.

While the suspect and the unknown victim were firing shots, two more suspects appeared to also be firing shots towards the same unknown victims, according to MPD. The suspects were in a white Dodge Charger with damages to the rear bumper with dark tint and black rims.

In the video footage, police said the unknown man appears to have been shot, however MPD could not confirm the information due to no contact with the individual.

The suspects and the unknown victims fled the scene in an unknown direction.

According to MPD, there were no eye-witnesses to the crime, however about seven security officers were on the scene.

MPD said a memo was written to Alcohol Beverage Commission due to capacity of the business exceeding the recommended number of occupants, maximum 200.

During the investigation, investigators discovered the Dodge Charger belonged to Frank Clemons, who was later arrested and charged.
