A murder mystery continues to loom over Dyer County, Tennessee. It’s been six years as of Monday that mother of four, Karen Swift, disappeared after a Halloween party in 2011.
Swift’s body was found several weeks later in a cemetery not far from her home.
Six years after Karen Smith’s murder, detectives still get tips and every lead is followed.
I spoke to Dyer County sheriff Jeff Box on the phone. He wasn’t available for an interview, but said this case is still very much active.
Sheriff Box also said that the evidence investigators have is all circumstantial. But that circumstantial evidence is strong. He said it’s just a matter of time before they make an arrest in the case.
Folks in Dyer County hope that’s true.
“I lived close to the area where she was found, not far. Within ten miles of the area,” says Mary Beth Whalen. “I’d love to see justice. Especially for her family so they would know what happened.”
Swift and her husband, David, were going through a divorce when she was killed. Friends tell us the couple had been married to each other twice.
Investigators haven’t said how Swift died. Most of her family moved to Arkansas after her murder.
