MEMPHIS, Tenn. — ABC24 is remembering a beloved friend and colleague, killed one year ago in a hit-and-run crash while working in Cooper-Young.
Michael Morrison was a loving husband to his wife Lindy, an amazing 'girl dad' to two daughters, and a talented journalist who pushed us every day to be our best.
"[Michael was so] kind and selfless with people he loved and people he just met," said Lindy Morrison, Michael's wife, after his death. "To be loved by Michael is the greatest experience I've ever had with love. I can't tell you enough how broken my heart is to not have him."
He was a proud part of our team for nine years, and was one of the pillars of our team of photographers and visual storytellers. He was always eager to provide mentorship to our newer team members, and was a person to rely on when junior photographers needed help or guidance.
We miss him dearly.
Memphis Police responded to the two-vehicle crash just after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, in the 1100 block of Cooper St. near Southern Ave. in Cooper-Young. 36-year-old Michael was critically injured and taken to Regional One Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The case is ongoing for the man charged in Michael’s death. Jason Patterson was indicted in September 2024 on charges of vehicular homicide - intoxication, vehicular homicide - reckless, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
Patterson has been out of jail after being released on his own recognizance one day after the deadly crash. He’s due back in court at the end of the month for a report date.
