Emergency warming center opens Tuesday night at Hospitality Hub in Memphis

The warming center will open Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 9 p.m. and close the following morning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — With low temperatures hitting the Mid-South, the City of Memphis is opening its warming center Tuesday night at the Hospitality Hub to keep residents safe. 

The warming center will open Dec. 3 at 9 p.m. and close the following morning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4. 

Sack meals and blankets will be provided until they run out and limited kennels will also be available for service dogs, according to Memphis, Light, Gas and Water (MLGW).

An emergency warming center serves as a temporary facility for people needing protection from the cold. The Memphis center possesses limited services and does not replace services offered by a shelter.

The warming center has limited services and is not intended to replace the services provided by a shelter. Local shelters have openings for anyone needing food assistance or a place to sleep overnight. 

People are advised to contact the Union Mission located at 383 Poplar Avenue (901-526-8403), or MIFA (901-529-4545) for overnight sleeping accommodations.
