The Germantown Animal Shelter is hosting an art competition for a T-shirt design in their "Running of the Weenies" event.

All artists — young and old — are invited to "showcase their creativity and contribute to this beloved community event." The submissions close Friday, July 12. Those who would like to submit an entry should email smorley56@gmail.com with their submissions or any questions.

The shelter said they are looking for designs that "capture the essence of Dachsunds, racing or the Germantown festival itself."

The submission guidelines are as follows:

  • Incorporate Dachshunds, racing and/or the Germantown Festival in your design.

  • Limit your design to four colors.

  • Ensure the design transfers well to the back of a T-shirt.

  • Submit your design in Vector Art file, Adobe Illustrator (AI) or EPS format.

  • Suggest a T-shirt color that complements your design.

The prizes are listed below:

  • 1st Place: $500

  • 2nd Place: $400

  • 3rd Place: $300

Judging is said to take place the week of July 15 with winners to be announced shortly thereafter.

The panel of judges includes the public art manager for the City of Germantown Cat Pena, production manager at Archer Advertising Donna Morley and morning anchor for CW30 Valerie Calhoun.
