Baptist and Christ Community hold event to bring holiday cheer to homeless community in Memphis

About 300 people were on hand helping during the annual "Tree of Faith, Hope and Love" event held at the Hospitality downtown.

Bringing holiday cheer to those in need was the goal at an annual event held at the Hospitality Hub in Downtown Memphis.

About 300 people were on hand helping during the annual "Tree of Faith, Hope and Love" event, held by Baptist and Christ Community Health Services on Friday.

Each attendee received a backpack full of gifts to help them get through the winter. Officials say this is the 14th year for the event. They spoke about the importance of partnering with the hospitality hub and its services.

Shantelle Leatherwood, the CEO of Christ Community Health Services was at "Tree of Faith, Hope and Love" 2023.

"We provide addresses for those that don't have permanent housing so that they can actually go out and find jobs and apartments for short-term living," Leatherwood said. "They're serving women and children at this location as well. This is just a great opportunity to come together."

Attendees also received a free barbecue meal, blood pressure screening and flu shot. Holiday gift cards were also stationed at the event so that participants could write to those they wanted to reach out to during the holidays.
