A former employee of Bass Pro is in jail after allegedly embezzling $30,955.55.
According to a police affidavit, a manager at the store on Macon Rd became aware of the theft after finding variances in inventory, noticing numerous items were missing that showed to have been returned by customers. Investigators say, all of the items were processed by employee Alan Weems, but, did not have the required customer signatures.
Weems was seen on surveillance video at the register conducting the returns with no customer present. He would then put the cash amount of the return into a white envelope, walk into a back office, then leave the office without the envelope.
Police say that Weems was also seen moving the store video camera angle so it wouldn’t catch him making the returns.
The thefts took place over a period between September 2017 – April 2018.
Weems was arrested on May 21 and charged with Theft of Property.
