The mother of pro basketball player Lorenzen Wright was overjoyed Thursday, after hearing Memphis Police made a major break in her son’s unsolved murder.
“They just said that we’re still working on your son’s case. It’ll never be a closed case. And one good thing we found the gun that killed Lorenzen,” said Deborah Marion, Wright’s mother as she recounted the call she got from MPD.
Wright was shot and killed in 2010 after he made a frantic 911 call. His body was found 10 days later in a field near Hacks Cross Road in Memphis.
“I feel like jumping for joy every time I think about what they said, ‘We found the gun in Walnut, Mississippi,'” said Marion.
According to MPD, the gun was found in a lake.
Since his death, Marion has held memorials on his death anniversary and his birthday, constantly pushing through her pain and looking for answers.
“I miss my baby. Especially holidays and his birthday,” Marion said through tears.
This latest development comes days after what would have been Wright’s 42nd birthday. Now his mother hopes the gun MPD found means they’re getting closer to finding Wright’s killer.
“It was registered to somebody and maybe that person knows we know now maybe they’ll tell who did it or who had it. I’m hoping,” said Marion.
Marion said she wants to thank police and this news motivates her to keep pushing for answers.
She urged anyone with information to tell someone.
