Congressman Steve Cohen and Memphis leaders gathered Saturday morning to officially unveil the Big River Crossing.
The ribbon-cutting event was held at the Church of the River Sanctuary and now connects the Shelby Farms by bike through downtown Memphis and into Arkansas. It will also utilize the historic Harahan Bridge to provide a crossing of the Mississippi River.
Mayor Jim Strickland and Memphis Police Department Director Michael Rallings were present at the ceremony.
In the evening at 7 p.m., there will be a fireworks and bridge lighting.
This will be the country’s longest active rail, bicycle and pedestrian bridge.
