MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Asian Night Market, held on Saturday, July 20th, 2024 at Tiger Lane exceeded expectations with a turnout surpassing the anticipated 8,000, says the Vietnamese Community American (VAC).
The event was a feast for the senses, with the smells of authentic Asian cuisine, sights of vibrant cultural performances, and a strong sense of community unity.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young shared his appreciation for the event, "Such an incredible display of diversity. Such an incredible display of community. I'm so excited to be here."
According to VAC the event exceeded expectations with an impressive turnout of about 10,000 attendees including families and children. This figure represents head counts and does not include the 80+ vendors and their assistants, performers, 60+ volunteers, and the dedicated staff.
Attendees enjoyed a unique opportunity to experience and celebrate the rich cultural diversity present in Memphis.
Harold Byrd, like many other attendee's, raved about his experience at the event "Truly, one of Memphis' most impressive events. Absolutely spectacular event and enrichment of the entire culture of our great 901. Hoping this will be a yearly event, possibly twice a year. Our culture in Memphis is greatly enriched with this truly quality production. Thank you, Vietnamese American Community in West Tennessee!"
With the help of 20 sponsors and over 100 vendors plus numerous performers, the event showcased a wide range of cultural offerings, from food to captivating performances.
The list of performers included artists representing China, India, Japan, Lao, Philippines, Polynesia and Vietnam.
The food featured at the event came from 13 Asian Countries: Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Lao, Malaysia, Philippines, Polynesia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
One of the vendor's, Let's Bok Bok, shared that they are already preparing for next year, "I had an amazing and successful night. We sold everything before the night even ended! Can't wait until next year! I will be bigger and better!"
The VAC expresses heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved for their invaluable contributions and they share their excitement for the next event, "We look forward to celebrating this cultural showcase again next year."
