Memphis police are investigating after they say two boys were assaulted while walking home from Wooddale High School Friday by a group of kids yelling racial slurs.

The boys’ mother called police, saying that her sons were assaulted in the 5100 block of Scottsdale, because they are Hispanic. The boys told police they left school, when a large group of boys and girls approached and began yelling racial slurs at them. The boys then said the group started punching and kicking them. They said the attackers then ran off, and they continued home.

The boys told police they didn’t know the attackers’ names, but said they were all African-American students at Wooddale High and would recognize them if they saw them again.

Police say they saw bruises all over the boys’ faces. They also say they received other calls about a large group fighting near the school.

No one has been arrested.
