Conn's HomePlus stores closing nationwide after company filed bankruptcy

Six Tennessee stores and two Mississippi stores are closing, according to Conn's website.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Home good retailer Conn's HomePlus is closing several stores after filing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy case on July 23.

Headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, Conn's filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. 

According to Commercial Appeal, Conn's has had three consecutive years of fiscal losses, and the company's shares plummeted more than 80 percent in 2023.

Bloomberg suggests that a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing may occur within a matter of weeks, however, discussions are ongoing, and plans could change.

Conn's HomePlus was founded more than 130 years ago in Beaumont, Texas, operating in 15 states with more than 4,000 employees.

The company's website has 174 stores on its closure list. Six Tennessee stores and two Mississippi stores will be closing.
