MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The family of a child who drowned in a hotel pool in Cordova spoke publicly Friday for the first time since the incident.
Five-year-old Dior Thedford was found shortly after midnight on Thursday, June 27, 2024. The Memphis Police Department responded to the hotel at 2427 Germantown Parkway regarding a medical call indicating that a young girl had fallen into a swimming pool.
Authorities are still investigating what exactly happened and how Dior was able to get into the pool.
Daniel, Williams & Associates, PLLC said they are representing Julius Thedford and said they will file a wrongful death claim next week.
Dior's father said he is upset the hotel didn't have more security measures in place.
"I am saddened that the Comfort Suites didn't have more security measures in place to protect young children from entering the pool area and drowning,” said Thedford. "My family and I are committed to doing everything in our power to make sure we get answers about how this incident occurred."
ABC24 reached out to the owner of the hotel. We've yet to receive a response.
