MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South (DSAM) is hosting its 27th annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The event runs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bert Ferguson Park in Cordova and aims to celebrate National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
This year’s walk, spanning one mile, is expected to bring in around 2,500 participants,. The event has become one of the largest disability awareness gatherings in the Mid-South, serving over 1,500 people with Down syndrome in the Memphis area.
“We are very excited about our 27th anniversary,” said Lori Green, Executive Director of DSAM. “We hope the entire Mid-South community will join us at the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of those we support and to show we are more alike than different.”
The event will be emceed by Richard Ransom from ABC24 News. It is open to anyone who wants to participate, whether they have Down syndrome or wish to show support for the cause.
Prizes will be awarded for the highest fundraisers and the largest teams. Attendees can also look forward to a picnic, entertainment, a children’s play area, and various vendors throughout the afternoon.
Proceeds from the event support DSAM’s age-appropriate programs for people with Down syndrome and their families.
