DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — A Dyer County Sheriff's Deputy is currently in the hospital facing serious injuries after the sheriff's office said he crashed with a semi-truck along Highway 51 Friday.
The Dyer County Sheriff's Office identified Deputy William "Whit" Whitson as the deputy injured in the crash.
According to the sheriff's office, Whitson was driving his patrol car along Highway 51 near Dyersburg Regional Airport Friday when a semi-truck pulled in front of him. The sheriff's office said the two then collided despite efforts to avoid the crash.
Whitson sustained serious injuries to his neck and was taken to the hospital, where he's currently stable. The truck driver was not injured, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol is now investigating who caused the crash.
The Dyer County Sheriff's Office said Whitson will undergo a medical procedure Monday, and is asking the community to rally around his family for a speedy recovery.
