FedEx St. Jude Championship brings millions of dollars, thousands of fans to Memphis area

Memphis Tourism estimates it will generate upwards of $10 million in economic impact.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — The field is set for the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind with the top 70 golfers gearing up to compete this week.

The players are competing for a $20 million purse, the winner receiving $3.6 million, and the chance to advance to the next round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Memphis Tourism President and CEO Kevin Kane said the event is also for a good cause. The tournament has raised $74 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital over the last 60 years.

"It brings millions of dollars to St. Jude, which is so important to our community,” Kane said. “Many of those golfers will just visit the kids at St. Jude and just brighten their day up."

Stephan Jaeger is one of the pro golfers that spent time with some of the kids from St. Jude.

“To be able to help and put a smile on their face and make a couple puts is easy for us,” Jaeger said.

Memphis Tourism estimates that millions of dollars will be spent on hotels, food, gas and other expenses between visitors for the tournament and Elvis Week visitors.

"We have Elvis Week going on, we have a PGA golf event going on. We know there's going to be thousands of people,” Kane said.

Memphis Tourism said the annual tournament will benefit the entire city and county's economy.

"We should be celebrating Memphis because this is going to be a great week,” Kane said.

The first round of the tournament tees off on Thursday, Aug. 14.
