MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department's Organized Crime Unit launched an investigation after receiving information on March 5, 2024, about drugs being sold at the Economy Hotel.
MPD shared that, with probable cause, detectives obtained search warrants for three rooms inside the hotel located at 3896 Lamar Avenue, Room #215, 217 and 231
According to an affidavit from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, at around 1p.m. on April 25, 2024, MPD's Organized Crime Unit and the Mt. Moriah Task Force officers executed search warrants at the Economy Inn at 3896 Lamar Avenue.
There, detectives found several duffle bags, loose firearms and narcotics. MPD said detectives recovered and seized the following during the search warrants:
Marijuana-604.4 Grams
Powder Cocaine-7.5 Grams
Crack Cocaine-8.5
Methamphetamine-35.1 Grams
Fentanyl-20 Grams
Ecstasy-172 Pills
Oxycodone- 133 Pills
Alprazolam-29 Pills
21 Firearms — two of which were reported stolen — were also reportedly seized in addition to $5,323.
According to the affidavit, three suspects were taken into custody. Dewayne Dukes was identified as the target of the warrant, but Morgan Matheson and Dylisha Lovelady were also found inside the hotel.
Dukes and Matheson are each facing 53 drug-related charges, while Lovelady is facing 40 drug-related charges.
They are all scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
