Multiple people are recovering in the hospital after a mass shooting at a Frayser night club.

Memphis Police say the shooting happened around 2:00 a.m. outside of Club Bosses in the 3100 block of North Watkins Drive.

Club Bosses owner, who did not want to give his name says this is the first violent activity that’s happened near his club in the last year.  But community leaders say once is enough.

“This is not the norm,” said Stevie Moore, President of FFUN (Freedom from Unnecessary Negatives).  “Illegal guns are a problem in our community, how they come in, how they get them, I don’t know.”

Moore is fed up.  He’s putting up these signs that read “Education is the Key, Stop the Killing” in response to Saturday morning’s mass shooting outside of Club Bosses.

“This shouldn’t happen. 5 people in one night, what are we going to say, how can we explain this,” Moore explained.

Memphis Police say the victims include four males ages 37, 34, 21 and 20 and a 19-year-old female, who has since been released.

“A guy was walking to his vehicle. Some guys from the street started opening up fire from my understanding. So, I think a few people got hit who may have been with him.  It was a birthday party the building was rented out and sometimes when you rent out for certain events you never know what type of crowd you’re going to have,” the club owner explained.

The club’s owner, who did not want to give his name says security is his top priority.

“It’s not too many guns out there, it’s just guns in the hands of inexperience people,” he said.  “I make sure all security is constantly walking the parking lot at all times and nobody is sitting in the car it’s either you in or you out.”

Meanwhile Moore wants more families to get involved and care about the neighborhoods they live in.

“When I was getting in trouble somebody told it on me.  This shooting last night, somebody knew about it and knew about it before it happened.  And we have to fight it with nosey neighbors.  Get back to our neighborhood watches,” said Moore.

Memphis Police have not made any arrests in this mass shooting.  If you have any information or rips, call Memphis Police or Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
