Family and friends gathered Saturday to pay their respects to form Memphis Police Director Melvin Burgess, Sr.
Burgess passed away last week.
His funeral was held at the Golden Gate Cathedral on James Road in Raleigh.
Several law enforcement officers honored Burges before he was laid to rest.
Burgess was a graduate of Grambling State University and a lifelong member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Burgess joined the Memphis Police Department March 12, 1962.
