MEMPHIS, Tenn., (localmemphis.com) – Forrest Goodman was a commentator for University of Memphis Tiger basketball and football and a program director for 600 AM WREC radio. He died Monday night after suffering long-term health complications.
Goodman will be remembered by friends, family, and fans for his love of Memphis and the people around him.
Tim Van Horn was a colleague of Goodman when they worked at 600 AM WREC as co-host of the morning show. Through this, they became close friends and shared life-long memories.
You never didn’t know where you stood with Forrest,“ Van Horn said. “A high integrity guy.“
Goodman dedicated 20 years to sports broadcasting, but nothing topped his love for his wife and daughter.
“As much as people know him about the Tigers and being a broadcaster,“ Van Horn said. “There was only one thing that could beat the Tigers when it came to cheering for something. This guy loved to go watch his daughter play fast pitch softball.“
Van Horn joked he knew Goodman’s daughters batting stats better than any Hall of Fame batter in the MLB. Goodman loved sharing stories about how proud he was of his daughter.
“In that aspect he’s the kind of father that I hope I can be when my daughter is older,“ Van Horn said.
Goodman was a graduate of Collierville High School and the University of Memphis.
Tiger Sport Properties General Manager, Todd Kucinski, worked with Goodman for 11 years.
“He bled Tiger Blue and Gray, and he was just a staple of our broadcast team and the Tiger family,“ Kucinski said.
Goodman will be remembered for his “voice“ and his unconditional love for his city, his teams, and his family.
“That Forrest was a good man, he was a respected man, he did his job well, he was a fighter in and out of the building, and he really loved his daughter,“ Van Horn said.
