Funeral services, Sea of Blue announced for McNairy County deputy killed in the line of duty

The TBI said Sgt. Rick Finley was shot and killed by a suspect while answering a call about a suspicious person outside a Selmer home Saturday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Funeral services and a Sea of Blue have been announced for McNairy County Deputy Sheriff Sgt. Rick Finley, who was killed in the line of duty this weekend.

 The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said Sergeant Rick Finley worked as a deputy full-time with the McNairy County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) and part-time with the Selmer Police Department.

Investigators said Sgt. Finley was shot and killed by a suspect while answering a call about a suspicious person outside a Selmer home just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024. The suspect was killed another officer, according to the TBI.

A Sea of Blue will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 18 beginning at 6:00 p.m. It will be held at the Robert K. Lee Justice Complex at 300 Industrial Park Drive in Selmer. The procession will exit the Justice Complex and turn left on Highway 45 bypass, then left at the intersection and through downtown Selmer, passing by Sgt. Finley’s Residence. It will then exit at the West Cherry Ave and Highway 45 off ramp and travel back to the Justice Complex.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Church at 877 West Cherry Ave. in Selmer. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. There will be no graveside ceremony.
