A local member of a gang has been found guilty after an attack on man who prosecutors say was trying to “make peace” with him. Miguel Gomez, 23, was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault-acting in concert.
Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich says July 28, 2013, the 26-year-old victim and his girlfriend went to a Mexican restaurant on Ridgeway to “make peace” with Gomez, known as “Stumper.”
Weirich says Gomez and others, including his 15-year-old brother, instead beat the victim with brass knuckles, a screw driver, a knife, and a gun. Weirich says Gomez held the victim’s head and forced the girlfriend to hit the victim with a wrench. The girlfriend was then punched and kicked by the group. Her boyfriend suffered a facial fracture and other injuries.
Gomez faces 8 to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced August 26th.
The case against Gomez’s brother, Kevin Gomez, 15, known as “L’il Stumper,” is being handled by juvenile court.
