Residents return to homes after crash led to gas leak in Southaven

SOUTHAVEN, Miss — Residents in Southaven were able to return to their homes Friday after a gas leak reportedly caused by a car crash.

The Southaven Police Department said a call regarding the gas leak came around 5 a.m. on Oct. 27. The leak happened near Valley Crest Drive in the Cherry Tree Park area, and some residents were asked to leave their homes.

The reported crash left a hole in the side of a home on Valley Crest Dr. The Southaven Fire Department and Atmos Energy were on scene when ABC24 cameras arrived.

One neighbor said police knocked on their door right about five in the morning saying someone had hit the gas line and they needed to evacuate immediately. She said around 10 houses total were evacuated.

First responders cleared the scene at around 11 a.m. and residents returned to their homes.
