MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Germantown’s Municipal Park will have a new look be summer of 2024.
The Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities presented the city with a check Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, for $489,435 to build an inclusive playground.
The new park will feature greater accessibility for residents with special needs. The city said the playground will get a complete overhaul, adding pathways compliant with American with Disabilities Act rules, and connecting it to City Hall, Germantown Athletic Club, and Germantown Performing Arts Center and the Grove.
Out of 21 applicants, Germantown was one of seven to receive a grant award from the DIDD. The project is funded by grants.
"The playground and its pathways will allow local children and adults with special needs to not only play, but also have access to adjacent cultural and recreational amenities,” Director of Parks and Recreation Natalie Ruffin said.
