Germantown officials held a meeting Saturday about potentially buying the Germantown Country Club.
Germantown’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee met with officials to see how the property might fit into the city’s plan for parks.
The club ownership announced earlier this month it will close on February 28th.
Mayor Mike Palazzolo asked the Parks and Recreation commission to explore the possibility of the city buying the 18-hole golf course for use as a city park.
“It would allow us to expand our park master plan, it would allow us to have the community have a larger, more central park that we could develop into amenities and activities later,” said Kevin Young, Chairman of Germantown Parks and Recreations Commission.
“I think it would be wonderful. If somehow, we can figure out the financial end of it and be able to afford it and I think people actually, I think the citizens of Germantown would actually entertain the idea of maybe some increased fees,” said Germantown resident, Larry Busby.
No action was made at Saturday’s meeting. The Board of Alderman and Mayor Palazzolo will consider the commission’s recommendation and make a final decision at a later date.
