MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Nobody likes paying property tax, but the Shelby CountyAssessor hopes it make it easier for people to reach his office.

Thursday was the grand opening of a new assessor’s officein downtown Memphis. Assessor Melvin Burgess says its current location on MullinsStation near Cordova is difficult for a number of people to reach.

He says it’s important for people to know what they arerequired to pay.

“Homes and our personal property, that’s all wehave when it comes to assets as constituents and taxpayers. So it’s importantto know what stipulations you have when it comes to assessments. And anything thatyou might have to better understand what we do in this office,” says Burgess.

There are plans to open additional officesacross the county, including in Whitehaven, Raleigh, and Germantown.
