Having trouble paying your utility bills? Memphis' assistance fund may help

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis residents having trouble paying for their utility bills may qualify for credit to help ease the burden.

Those facing utility cutoff notices might be eligible to receive up to a $700 credit on Memphis, Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) bills through the City of Memphis Utility Assistance fund.

In order to qualify, a person must have a household income that does not exceed 130% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, be an existing client of the Tennessee Department of Human Services or has experienced financial, health or military deployment-related hardship in the last six months.

Those applying need to have the utilities in their name or their spouse's name and a current MLGW cutoff notice.
