MEMPHIS, Tenn — A Shelby County Grand Jury will take up the case against a man facing charges after a deadly hit-and-run in November 2023 in East Memphis, according to court records.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to a pedestrian struck call on Nov. 11 shortly before 9 p.m. at Highland and Windover. One man was found and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to an affidavit, 28-year-old Hector Nunez had been driving south on South Highland Street in a 2017 Kia Forte when he struck the man. Nunez then left the scene and continued driving south without giving aid or reporting the incident.

On the following Monday, Nunez went to the traffic office, admitting he was the one responsible for the crash, the affidavit said. He could not provide insurance nor did he have a valid driver's license, according to court records. He was then taken into custody.

Nunez has been charged with not possessing a driver's license, violation of financial law, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury. He is out of jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
