MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Arson caused the house fire that led to homes on Brandon Circle and Pendleton Street to be evacuated on Tuesday due to the threat of explosives, authorities said.
The Memphis Fire Department (MFD) said they responded to a house fire on Brandon Circle around 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 27. The fire had originated from the inside of a shed.
Memphis Police said they were called to the house that caught fire one month ago and found explosives in the home. They said there was a "possibility" of explosives still being in the home now, but later stated that none were found.
A MATA bus was sent to the area for nearby residents to evacuate. Memphis Police said they were taken to a school for safe housing. MFD said they evacuated around 20 homes around Brandon Circle and Pendleton Street. The home on fire was empty, according to Memphis Police.
Memphis Police said ATF and the FBI were also called to the scene.
All residents were allowed to return home just before 2 a.m. the same night.
No injuries have been reported, according to authorities.
