COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — On Sunday morning, the Kroger grocery store on Houston Levee was closed as authorities said toxic fumes from construction work were found to be in the store.

Workers were staining the floor as part of an expansion to the 3685 South Houston Levee location when fumes from the work crept into the part of the store that was still open to the public, Collierville Police said.

By 11 a.m., they said the store had been properly ventilated and fire crews had cleared the scene, according to Town of Collierville.

Collierville Fire Department officials were at the store around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 to close it to the public, according to Collierville Police.

Toward 10 a.m., the Town of Collierville also described a "suspicious odor" via their social media page as fire officials reportedly began ventilating the structure.

This is a developing story. ABC24 will update this article as more information becomes available.
