MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Hundreds of people filled the Paradise Entertainment Center in south Memphis Saturday for the People’s Convention.
Vote 901, a group dedicated to increasing voter turnout, planned this political convention. Nearly twenty candidates were there.
The mission was to mobilize 2,500 people to come and weigh in on who they should support for city of Memphis public offices. Although organizers didn’t reach their attendance goal, they were pleased with the turnout.
“I think that it’s an excellent turnout and a great start, and we know that this is just the beginning we will mobilize more people than in the building now between now and the upcoming election,“ said Sijuwloa Crawford, People’s Convention organizer.
People who attended also had the opportunity to interact and engage with some of the candidates.
