MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Memphiscould be the next location to house immigrant children who are separated fromtheir parents.
A company called The Baptiste Group was awarded$3.7 million from the federal government to set up a residential facility.
The company presented a plan to Shelby CountySchools to lease the now vacant Southside Middle School.
The proposal states the children are expectedto live in the facility for about 30 days, but SCS confirmed to Local 24 News thecompany withdrew its proposal after a school board meeting Tuesday.
Baptiste Group has not returned our emails orphone call to find out what other sites it might be looking at, but we do knowit posted a number of job openings for Memphis. Postings including programdirector, counselors, and social workers.
