New data shows $51 Billion invested into Mid-South infrastructure

Tennessee makes up a majority of the Mid-South funds. Big projects include investments into sections of I-40 and a new facility for MATA.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Billions of dollars are being used to help improve the infrastructure Mid-Southerners use every day.

As the country kicks off Infrastructure Week, the Biden-Harris administration unveiled plans for the Mid-South. The money is being used on roads, bridges, taking the lead out of pipes, lowering healthcare costs and increasing access to high speed internet.

The Tri-State area has received more than $51 billion in public and private funds to improve infrastructure across the states.

Here is how the individual states break down:

Tennessee makes up a majority of the Mid-South funds. Big projects include investments into sections of I-40, a new $54,000,000 Operations and Maintenance Facility for MATA and railroad rehabilitation across the volunteer state.

In Mississippi, highlights include improvements to Amtrak rails, widening parts of I-10 and $1,300,000,000 in clean energy investments like solar and wind power.

Meanwhile in Arkansas, big projects include efforts to reduce flood risks and state flooding, better accessibility at airports for people with disabilities, and strengthening the country's supply chain.

Another big push in the country's infrastructure has been reducing the amount of money people spend on healthcare. The Biden-Harris Administration said nearly 3,000,000 seniors and people on Medicare in the Mid-South will save money on their prescription costs, including insulin, thanks to measures by the administration.
