SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — An inmate has died at the Shelby County Division of Corrections, and the sheriff's office is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said that deputies were called to 1045 Mullings Station Road on Thursday shortly after 2 p.m. There, an inmate was reportedly found hanging in a cell in an apparent suicide attempt.
This inmate was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to SCSO. Less than two days later, this inmate passed away, according to the SCSO.
This inmate specifically died around 4 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the SCSO.
