One dead after plane crash in Arkansas

An investigation is now underway in Van Buren County after a plane crash was reported in the area on Tuesday evening.

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Ark. — An investigation is now underway in Van Buren County after a plane crash was reported in the area.

According to Van Buren County Judge Dale James, a six-passenger plane, with just a pilot on board, reported engine failure shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The plane was reportedly traveling from Fayetteville to Corinth, MS. Search crews confirmed that debris from the crash was found in steep, rugged terrain.

Once responders found the wreckage after four hours they found the pilot dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 68-year-old Robert Phillip Mathis of Corinth.

He was the only person on board the plane when it crashed.
