Hudson said Franklin inspired her work as an artist "in every way."

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — ABC24's Rudy Williams sat down with Jennifer Hudson on the set of her show in Hollywood.

She's won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony. Superstar Jennifer Hudson, whose award-winning talk show airs each weekday right here on ABC24 News, said talked about the lessons the show has taught her and also touched on her life as a working mom.

She also had a lot to say about the influence of a well-known Memphian whom the entire world respects: Aretha Franklin, whom she played in the film "Respect." Hudson said Franklin inspired her work as an artist "in every way."

"She was a mom, a working mom, a star, she came from the church. You know, I didn't realize how much of an impact she was and connection until I portrayed her in the movie," Hudson said. "We connected on so many levels and we would talk all the time and during a lot of our conversations, I didn't realize it was like a mother teaching. She was like a mother to me. And it wasn't until after she passed that I realized she was speaking out of real-life experiences.'

Rudy Williams' full interview with Jennifer Hudson is streaming now on the ABC24+ app.
