Memphis Tigers head basketball coach Josh Pastner will be staying with the University of Memphis.

As expected, the University of Memphis will retain the services of Tigers head coach Josh Pastner.

President David Rudd making that announcement Friday.

The embattled Pastner had been the subject of rumors regarding his future all the season. The men’s basketball program has not made the postseason for two straight seasons and has seen a drop in attendance and win and losses.

That just amped the speculation regarding Pastner’s future.

Pastner would be owed $10 million by the school if he were let go.

A statement released by president David Rudd and the Tigers director of athletics Tom Bowen reads:

The University of Memphis wishes to congratulate and thank our student-athletes, coaching staffs and our passionate fans, who are indeed the best in the country.

We have completed our comprehensive review of the men’s basketball program and have concluded that our program operates in a manner consistent with the core values of our University and community, but has fallen short in our on-court performance the last two years. The UofM will make the necessary investments and changes in order that our program may compete at the highest level with Josh Pastner as our coach.

Pastner has not been available comment, but will address the matter on his TV show Sunday on our Nexstar sister station CW 30 WLMT.
