A nationally known singer and songwriter returned to her roots today.
Kirby Lauryen spoke to students at her alma mater, STAX Music Academy.
Kirby is the pen behind hits including “Only One” by Kanye West and “Die With You” by Beyonce.
Lauryen’s career sparked by writing a song per day on YouTube for 275 days. She was signed to Roc Nation on day 302.
When it looks like there is no opportunity close you have to wake up and do it and love it and be passionate about it because you love it. I wouldn’t have the tools, the stamina to be in a room with Kanye West and be able to write on the level he requires if I had not done that groundwork,” said Lauryen.
Lauryen will be honored next week in LA by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publisher
